I am unable to move or delete certain teams folders in a channel. Some of which I can, but others I can not. I am the owner of the channel. Attachement shows two folder settings next to each other.

    Hi @D,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how inconvenient it can be when you’re a Teams owner and notice that some folders allow actions like Move or Delete, while others do not.

To provide some clarity, in Microsoft Teams, each channel’s files are stored in SharePoint. However, certain channel folders are system‑managed by design. These default or protected folders are intentionally locked to prevent disruption to the underlying channel and file structure. As a result, even owners won’t see options such as Move or Delete for those folders. This is why, as shown in your screenshots, two folders that appear side by side can display different context menus, one is a standard folder, while the other is directly tied to the channel and therefore restricted.

It’s also important to note that being a Team or Channel owner does not override these limitations. This behavior is expected and intentionally enforced by Microsoft to protect the integration between Teams and SharePoint. Additionally, retention or compliance policies configured by your organization may further restrict the ability to move or delete channel folders.

That said, there are still a few supported options you can consider:

    • While the folder itself cannot be moved or deleted, you can still move or delete individual files within the folder.
    • If the content is no longer required, one supported workaround is to delete the entire channel, which will automatically remove its associated folder.
    • If your organization needs to remove a locked folder without deleting the channel, this will need to be handled by an IT administrator using backend tools or by opening a Microsoft support ticket.

I appreciate that this limitation can impact your workflow, and your feedback is absolutely valid. If this capability is important for your team, I strongly encourage you to submit feedback directly from Teams by going to Help > Feedback, or through the Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub > Send Feedback, as this is the best way to influence future improvements.
