Clipboard Problem

If I copy a cell then delete the cell the clipboard is erased and the data from that cell is lost. Similarly, I can delete multiple cells and undo multiple times to restore the cell data, but if I delete a cell and then hit make a keystroke there is only one level of undo. The next undo becomes a redo which means the single keystroke in the cell appears and disappears and the original cell data is lost. Version 16.103.1 | MacOS 26.3.1

    Hi @Clay Simchick,

Thank you for your update. If the issue persists after these steps, this appears to require a deeper investigation at the backend level. While I would love to resolve this directly, my current scope and resource limitations do not allow access to the internal systems needed for this type of troubleshooting. The best next step is to have your IT administrator submit a support ticket through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center

Once the ticket is created, a technical support engineer will be able to initiate a secure remote session, review backend configurations, run diagnostics, and escalate the case to specialized engineering teams if necessary. These teams are equipped to perform advanced troubleshooting and provide targeted solutions.

As moderators, our role is to offer guidance and general troubleshooting steps. Although we do not have access to administrative tools required for backend fixes, we truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations. We hope the information provided helps point you in the right direction, and we are always here to assist as much as possible within our scope.

For instructions on submitting a support request, please refer to: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

I hope you found the answer helpful, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could mark it as accepted. Your first point is a design issue which cannot be altered at the user level. Use Help> Feedback to submit the behavior to the development group. Don't expect a personal reply but constructive Feedback is monitored seriously & can result in an eventual change. However, I believe this is due to the fact that G👀gle Sheets is a web app. The Excel Online web app the Clipboard content is retained. It;s only the desktop software which loses the content so it seems to be browser related.

The second point is due to the fact that not all actions can be undone. Once such an action is executed nothing preceding it can be undone.

    Hi @Clay Simchick,

I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for sharing the details, including your Excel version and macOS version. I tested this in my own environment, and I was able to resolve the behavior by enabling Clipboard history on the Mac. In my testing, this helped preserve access to recently copied content even when Excel cleared the current copy state.

To do this, please follow these steps:

    • Open Spotlight by pressing Command + Space.
    • Open Clipboard history from Spotlight. You can do this by selecting the control to the right of the search field, or by pressing Command + 4.
    • If prompted, select Enable to turn on Clipboard history.
    • After that, try reproducing the issue again in Excel and check whether the copied content remains available from Clipboard history.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow the steps above and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can continue working together to resolve the issue.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out so I can continue to support you. If you found the response useful, please consider marking it as accepted, as this may help other community members who are looking for similar guidance.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.
