Good day @Susan Rodriguez (Sacred Heart College - Sorrento)

I'm glad to help you look into this. To help narrow things down, could you please let me know which operating system is installed on the older laptop and whether it has received the latest updates? Sometimes Teams can stop launching if the OS is a bit out of date.

Also, when you see the message saying “something went wrong,” does it show any error code or additional details? If you’re able to share a quick screenshot of that message, it would really help me identify the issue more accurately.

While we look into that, you can try clearing the Teams cache by following the steps in Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn as this often resolves launch-related issues. If the problem persists, uninstalling Teams and then reinstalling the latest version is also worth trying to ensure everything is set up cleanly.

Please feel free to reply directly under this post with any updates. Thanks for your time, and I’ll be glad to continue assisting you.

Use these steps on the older laptop to get Microsoft Teams working again:

    1. Fully close Teams
      • In the taskbar notification area (near the clock), right-click the Teams icon and select Quit to make sure it is not running in the background.
    2. Try signing out and back in (if you can open it briefly)
      • If Teams opens at all, select the profile picture in the top-right corner.
      • Choose Sign out.
      • When Teams closes, open it again and sign in with the work email and password.
    3. Clear the Teams cache (Windows)
      • Quit Teams as above.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Paste this path and select OK:
        • %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
      • Delete all contents of that folder.
      • Open Teams again and sign in.
    4. If Teams still will not open, reinstall it
      • Uninstall Microsoft Teams from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
      • Restart the laptop.
      • Install Teams again and sign in with the same work account used on the other laptop.
    5. Check network and VPN
      • Make sure the laptop has a working internet connection by opening a website in a browser.
      • If the organization requires VPN, connect to the VPN before opening Teams.
    6. Try the web version as a test
      • Open a browser and go to https://teams.microsoft.com.
      • Sign in with the work account.
      • If the web version works, the issue is likely with the desktop app and should be resolved by cache clear or reinstall.

If the problem continues after these steps, contact the organization’s IT administrator, as there may be a policy or access issue affecting that specific device.
