How would I get updates to Microsoft 365 apps? Just discovered this morning there is an issue with the copy/paste function in Microsoft teams that was reported in April.

    Hi @Banks, Gwen L

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your inquiry about how to update Microsoft 365 apps, you can follow the recommendations suggested by the AI above or use the step by step instructions below.

When an update is available, a notification will appear at the top of your Teams window. You can choose to update immediately instead of waiting for the automatic update during an idle period.

    1/ Select Update

2/ Choose Update and restart Teams.

To check for Microsoft 365 or Office for Windows updates, do the following:

1/ Open any Microsoft 365 app, such as Word, and create a new document.

2/ Go to File > Account (or Office Account if you opened Classic Outlook).

3/ In the Product Information section, choose Update Options > Update Now.

Note: You may need to click Enable Updates first if you don't see the Update Now option right away. User's image

4/ Close the "You're up to date!" or "Updates were installed" window after Microsoft 365 or Office is done checking for and installing updates.

You can also use the Update Options button to Disable Updates or to View Updates that were previously installed.

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While my initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details about your situation so I can assist you more effectively.

I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!

For Microsoft 365 Apps (Office desktop apps like Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams, updates are obtained as follows:

    1. Microsoft 365 Apps (desktop Office apps)
By default, Microsoft 365 Apps update automatically from the internet via the Office Content Delivery Network (CDN). The update process runs in three automatic steps:
      • Detect that updates are available using the Office Automatic Updates 2.0 scheduled task.
      • Download only the changed files in compressed form.
      • Apply the updates.
Admins can change how these updates are delivered:
      • Automatically from the internet (default, least admin effort, least control).
      • Using Microsoft Configuration Manager for full control over which devices get which build and when.
      • Automatically from an on‑premises location (for example, a network share) by configuring an UpdatePath via the Office Deployment Tool or Group Policy.
      • By reinstalling an updated version using the Office Deployment Tool (most control, highest effort).
Example Office Deployment Tool configuration to update from a network share:
         <Updates Enabled="TRUE" UpdatePath="\\\server\updates" />

    2. Microsoft Teams
Teams updates are separate from the Office desktop apps. To install updates to Microsoft Teams, follow the guidance in Update Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support (steps are linked from the Modern Translator article under To install updates to Microsoft Teams).
    3. Ensuring devices are managed centrally (optional, for admins)
If using Microsoft Configuration Manager to manage Microsoft 365 Apps updates:
      • Enable Configuration Manager to receive Microsoft 365 Apps update packages from WSUS.
      • Enable Microsoft 365 Apps clients to receive updates from Configuration Manager by turning on the Office COM management object via:
        • Configuration Manager client settings (Enable management of the Office 365 Client Agent), or
        • Group Policy (Management of Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise policy), or
        • Office Deployment Tool (OfficeMgmtCOM="True" in the configuration file).

If the copy/paste issue in Teams was fixed in a later build, ensuring that both Microsoft 365 Apps and Teams are configured to receive and apply updates automatically (or via Configuration Manager/on‑premises path, depending on the environment) will bring in the fix once it is released for the configured update channel.
